Years of skepticism and cautious anticipation have come to an end, and the Silent Hill 2 Remake has landed. As a long-time fan who initially harboured nervousness about how Konami would do the original justice, I report with surprise that this remake not only held solid ground but was, in fact, enjoyable. While it is by no means perfect — having its minor problems and making some changes which are sure to raise the hackles of fans — all in all, it is a very true-to-its-roots, entertaining readjustment of a classic.
Faithful Yet Fresh
A lot like the critically acclaimed Resident Evil 2 remake, Silent Hill 2 Remake manages to both stay faithful to the original and carry with it new elements that refine the experience. The game is not a one-to-one recreation of the old one; it adds more content, changes the order of events, and even reworks level designs. These surprise seasoned players while still retaining the atmosphere that made this title so popular in the first place.
